What Sunday is Like
The Sign of the Cross and the Invocation
Some members of Christ Evangelical follow Martin Luther’s recommendation to make the sign of the cross during various points in the service as well bowing their heads at the Invocation of the Trinity whether chanted, sung, or spoken aloud. The sign of the cross serves as a reminder of our baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection. If you would like to participate in this tradition, the specific times are usually noted in the Order of Service by a red cross.
Chanting & Music
Christ Evangelical uses a traditional organ and piano for special music. The main source of music is the Lutheran Service Book. Much of the liturgy is chanted. The pastor, cantor, and people all sing certain parts. Don’t worry if this takes time to understand the service – everything will be listed in the bulletin or Order of Service. The congregation sings in full voice if you are only comfortable listening and following along at first. The congregation will stand when singing a hymn stanza that praises the Triune God: the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. These stanzas are marked by a triangle in the hymnal and are concluded by singing “Amen”.
Communion
If you’re new to our church, please speak with the pastor before the service about receiving communion or contact him now through our contact page.
The Lord’s Supper is offered every Sunday to those in fellowship with our church (The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod). You may also come forward to receive a blessing, by laying your hands over your heart.
Fellowship, Sunday School, & Bible Study
Fellowship and Christian teaching is important for any church and we welcome all visitors to attend. Coffee, tea, and a light brunch are served during Bible Study and Sunday School immediately after the Divine Service.
